we survived the blizzard (though not all of our ceilings did).
i had 1.5 days of childcare this week after ~two weeks of none, but i made the most of it with early morning editing, lots of coffee, and idk…just getting through starting?
i’m almost fully done revising the prologue through chapter two. this feels especially significant because it means i’m almost fully done with the ~50 pages i’ll send to agents once the manuscript is complete.
feeling good about these pages is enormous for me and it makes me feel like the end is in sight. feeling like i was done last summer and then truuudging through this edit has completely drained me of excitement but dare i say…it’s back! and i think it’s …great?

✍️ best moment of writing this week
feeling DONE with my prologue! and after one more re-read, done with chapter 1. these first ~30 pages have gotten more edits than i can even explain. since my novel is speculative fiction, i need to set the stage in normal life, but still grip the reader/lay the groundwork. it has been tough to recreate the anxiety that covid naturally gave the plot originally, but by george, she’s got it! these are also the pages that i will send to agents, so they need to stand out in the slush pile.
☕️ coffee shop haunt of the week
where: tatte
order: the farro, corn, avocado bowl
vibe: i used to “work work” here a lot, and i wrote a lot of my middle chapters here. it’s a large location and a mix of young families, remote workers, creatives, and interviews.
